Strong Storms, Drenching Downpours & Possibility for Tornado to come late afternoon thru evening
...Strong to severe thunderstorms possible later this afternoon
and evening...
While there will be some showers and possible thunderstorms over
the region into the midday hours...the time of concern will be
later this afternoon and evening when a cold front will push
across the state. This front will generate a second round of
storms that could reach severe limits.
Winds aloft will be dangerously favorable for strong to severe
thunderstorms with damaging winds...but cloud cover from this
mornings shower activity could limit the amount of energy
available for the late day storms. Simply put...the more sun we
receive today...the greater the threat. The severe weather
potential will be greatest between 3 and 6 PM for the far western
counties...between 5 and 8 PM for the Finger Lakes region...and
between 7 and 10 PM for the Eastern Lake Ontario region.
Along with the risk for widespread severe weather...there will be
heightened concern for flooding due to slow moving downpours and very wet existing conditions.
