**The following list is only a sample of all the complaints handled by patrols**
Sunday 4/25/21: Total Complaints = 67
- Patrols responded to 10 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Officers performed 1 Welfare Check.
- WSPD received an anonymous complaint of people doing drugs on the patio of a Clinton St. address. When officers arrived, no one was there.
- Police came upon a rollover accident that had just happened on the 400. The driver stated three deer ran out in front of her car, she swerved to avoid them, overturned and went into a ditch. She was not injured.
- A Reserve Rd. resident called 911, reporting there was a male outside yelling into a cell phone and smashing the complainant’s neighbor’s mailbox. Officers located the male on foot a short distance away, highly intoxicated and with bloody knuckles. The owner of the mailbox declined to pursue charges, but wished for the subject to pay to replace the mailbox, which he agreed to do.
- Patrols were called to the Dollar General on Seneca St. for a report of customer trouble. A female was reportedly trying to return some items, which the store was refusing to take back. The customer left prior to our arrival.
- A suspicious male was reported to have been standing outside a vehicle on the side of Orchard Park Rd. for some time. The vehicle was his, and he was adjusting his speakers.
- Police responded to a disturbance involving an unruly client at a Mineral Springs Rd. facility. The commotion apparently began over a cup of tea. Patrols were able to help calm the situation.
- A 26-year-old Buffalo woman was arrested, following a traffic stop on Ridge Rd. An officer observed a vehicle abruptly cut from a left-hand turning lane in front of vehicles in the right-hand lane. The driver’s license was suspended, and the vehicle had Tennessee license plates that could not be verified as valid. The woman was issued citations for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd Degree, Unlicensed Operator and Unsafe Lane Change. The car was towed.
- A 35-year-old Cheektowaga man was arrested, following a traffic stop on Union Rd. An officer stopped him for speeding, and discovered his license was suspended. He was issued citations for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd Degree and Speed in Zone.
- Patrols responded to a report of numerous occupied, suspicious vehicles in the parking lot of a North America Dr. business, after-hours. A group of friends had met there to hang out and catch up. They were advised to pick a different hangout.
- A 43-year-old Cheektowaga man was arrested, following a traffic stop on Union Rd. Officers stopped him for not having a functioning rear plate lamp, and discovered the vehicle’s registration was suspended and the driver had a restricted-use license. The man was issued summonses for Operating While Registration Suspended, an equipment violation for the lamp, and a license restriction violation.
Monday 4/26/21: Total Complaints = 83
- Patrol responded to 10 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Patrols responded to 3 Alarm Ringing calls.
- Police responded to 2 Domestic Disturbances.
- Officers performed 7 Welfare Checks.
- A female called 911, stating a suspicious male dressed in all black was walking down Center Rd., came up a driveway and approached her. Officers advised him to stay off of other people’s properties.
- A Tonawanda woman reported she was shoved by a male at Jim’s Steakout, while working as a DoorDash driver. The woman stated she was speaking with a manager about enforcing the restaurant’s mask policy, when the male approached and began arguing with her. She stated she reached her arm out to block him from coming into her personal space, at which time he shoved her to the ground and ran out of the restaurant.
- A 44-year-old Buffalo man was arrested for drunk driving. An officer observed him driving down Seneca St., in the middle of both lanes, and swerving onto the shoulder. He failed field sobriety tests and registered a .185% BAC on a preliminary breath test. His license was revoked, for a previous DWI conviction. He was charged with DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st Degree, and several traffic infractions.
- Police and firefighters responded to an accident with injuries at Union Rd. and Main St. One vehicle ran the red light on Union, colliding with the other. The driver of the striking vehicle complained of neck pain and was taken to the hospital. He was also issued tickets for Passing a Red Signal and Failure to Yield the Right-of-Way.
- A Windmill Rd. resident reported unknown suspect(s) fraudulently opened a Chase credit card in his name.
- A young male was reported to be standing outside a broken down pickup truck on Woodward Dr., hitting the truck. When officers arrived, the male and truck were gone.
- A brown Jeep with Delaware plates was reported to be swerving all over the 400. Officers stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, who was traveling from Delaware to Niagara Falls. He was advised to pull over and take breaks when he’s tired.
- Employees at TOPS Express reported a customer drove off without paying for $40 of gas. Patrols made contact with the woman at her house. She returned to pay her bill.
- A Gordon Ave. resident reported some kids hitting a golf ball struck and broke one of her windows. Officers spoke to the subjects’ parents, who agreed to pay for the damage.
- Police responded to Elm St. for a neighbor dispute. A loud and profane exchange had ensued over grass clippings. Both parties were advised to stay away from each other.
- A Tindle Ave. resident called 911, stating he heard a loud noise and screaming coming from behind his house. Officers located a vehicle in a ditch, off the side of the 400 entrance ramp from Seneca St. The driver stated he and his passenger were arguing, when she began hitting him, causing him to lose control of the car. He was arrested and released on a summons for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd Degree, after his license was found to be suspended. The passenger got another ride home.
Tuesday 4/27/21: Total Complaints = 63
- Patrol responded to 5 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Patrols responded to 1 Alarm Ringing call.
- Police responded to 2 Domestic Disturbances.
- Officers performed 4 Welfare Checks.
- Police were called to a disturbance in the parking lot of 240 South. The occupants of a vehicle had been having a loud conversation; they were sent on their way.
- Nine town residents reported unknown suspect(s) obtained their personal information, and fraudulently filed for unemployment benefits in their names.
- A 29-year-old Buffalo woman was arrested, following a traffic stop on Clinton St. An officer observed a vehicle with a headlight out, and its high beams activated. Both the driver’s license and the vehicle’s registration were suspended. She was released on summonses for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd Degree, Operating While Registration Suspended and violations for the lights.
- A 36-year-old Buffalo man was arrested, following a traffic stop on Union Rd. Officers observed the vehicle run the red light at Union and Seneca Creek Rd. The driver’s license was suspended. He was issued summonses for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd Degree Passing a Red Signal.
- Police and firefighters responded to an accident with injuries on Orchard Park Rd. The driver of a medical transport van reported a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction veered into his lane, causing him to have to swerve to avoid a head-on crash. The evasive maneuver caused a client in the back of the van to fall out of his wheelchair, possibly sustaining a broken wrist. He was taken to the hospital. The other vehicle and driver left the scene.
- A Bellwood Ave. resident reported someone shot his bedroom window with a pellet gun. The complainant said he heard a “tinking” noise, went to investigate, and discovered a hole in the window and a pellet lodged between the double glass panes.
- A 55-year-old Hamburg man was arrested, for shoplifting from TOPS on Harlem Rd. Employees called police, stating the man was fleeing with over $400 in merchandise; officers found him a short distance away. He was charged with Petit Larceny and released on an appearance ticket.
- Patrols responded to a report of a suspicious male jumping in and out of traffic, and punching a telephone pole, on Clinton St. He was transported to the VA Hospital for evaluation.
Wednesday 4/28/21: Total Complaints = 74
- Patrol responded to 10 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Patrols responded to 3 Alarm Ringing calls.
- Police responded to 1 Domestic Disturbance.
- A man reported that as he was exiting the Overpass Pub on Seneca St., a male walked out from under the I-90 overpass bridge with a long white pole, and tried to hit him with it. Officers searched the area, but did not locate any suspicious persons wielding poles.
- A woman reported someone stole her pickup truck from the parking lot of TOPS on Orchard Park Rd. while she was inside the store. The truck wasn’t stolen; one of the complainant’s family members had swapped it out for a different vehicle.
- An Indian Church Rd. resident reported his next-door neighbor has been constantly harassing him for the past year, by hurling obscenities and derogatory ethnic terms at him, calling in false complaints about him not picking up after his dog in the park and posting a drawing depicting an extended middle finger in one of her windows, facing his house.
- An employee of a state-run facility reported unknown suspect(s) were somehow able to enter a locked safe, and steal $791 in cash. Detectives are investigating.
- Three town residents reported unknown suspect(s) obtained their personal information, and fraudulently filed for unemployment benefits in their names.
- A Nancycrest Ln. resident reported he and his daughter were both receiving harassing phone calls and messages from the daughter’s boyfriend.
- A Dwyer St. woman reported she was the victim of a new iteration of the “grandparent” scam, where an unknown suspect called her claiming her granddaughter was in jail and she needed to send money for the granddaughter’s bail. In this instance, two male suspects came to the victim’s house on two separate occasions to retrieve the cash from her. In total, they stole $15,000.
- Officers were dispatched to a report of a reckless driver swerving all over Orchard Park Rd. They caught up with the driver on Potters Rd. She was advised of how she could improve her driving, and sent on her way.
- A man reported his truck was stolen from the gas pumps at Crosby’s, while he briefly went inside the convenience store. A couple of hours later, Buffalo Police found the truck, abandoned, in the city. The victim’s phone, credit card, and handgun – all of which had been inside the truck when it was stolen – were missing.
Thursday 4/29/21: Total Complaints = 61
- Patrols responded to 11 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Officers performed 4 Welfare Checks.
- A male suspect was reported to have shoplifted over $1000 worth of merchandise from the Home Depot. Surveillance video will be used to attempt to identify him.
- A Seneca Creek Rd. resident reported he was receiving harassing and threatening text messages from a man to whom he’d sold a log splitter via Facebook Marketplace. The subject was unhappy with the machine’s performance, and wanted some of his money back. He was advised not to contact the complainant anymore, and to follow up in civil court, if he desires.
- The manager of One Pie Pizza Co. on Clinton St. reported the business is receiving repeated prank calls from what sound like teenagers, creating a nuisance and tying up the phone lines.
- Three town residents reported unknown suspect(s) obtained their personal information, and fraudulently filed for unemployment benefits in their names.
- Employees of Nino’s Pizza called police, stating a possibly intoxicated customer had become belligerent with them and then left in a vehicle, southbound on Orchard Park Rd. Police were unable to locate the man or the vehicle.
- A man reported a DoorDash delivery driver struck his vehicle in the parking lot of Picasso’s and left the scene. Patrol made contact with the subject, who subsequently responded to the police station and provided his information. He stated he was unaware he had backed into another car.
- A French Lea Rd. resident reported two youths from a few doors down approached his child, carrying a shovel and a bat, trying to intimidate the complainant’s child. There is an ongoing neighbor dispute between the involved parties. They were advised to stay away from one another.
- An Elmsford Dr. resident reported she was the victim of a “grandparent” scam, where an unknown male suspect called her stating her grandson was in jail and needed bail money, and then another male suspect showed up to her house to collect the $10,000 cash.
Friday 4/30/21: Total Complaints = 83
- Patrols responded to 8 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Police responded to 1 Domestic Disturbance.
- Officers performed 3 Welfare Checks.
- WSPD received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot next to Overpass Pub, after the bar closed. When officers arrived, the lot was empty. About half an hour later, we received a second call saying the vehicle was still there. This time, officers encountered several patrons who weren’t quite ready to go home hanging out in the vehicle. They were advised to call it a night, and complied.
- A Chamberlin Dr. resident called 911, stating she could hear screaming coming from a few houses down. The occupants of the house in question were having an extremely loud discussion, and were asked to quiet down. They refused to answer their door or speak to police.
- Patrols responded to Highland Ave. to mediate a neighbor dispute. The subject was asked not to pile items against his neighbor’s fence, so that the fence can be repaired.
- Two men came to WSPD headquarters, to report that they’d just had an altercation in the parking lot of the Post Office. The two have a long-standing dispute over a previous business transaction, and the initial complainant admitted they both provoke one another whenever they see each other. On this occasion, their verbal argument ended with one shoving the other. They were advised not to provoke one another any longer.
- A 53-year-old Buffalo man was arrested for shoplifting from the TOPS on Harlem Rd. Loss prevention caught him stealing approximately $160 in shrimp and other meat products. He was charged with Petit Larceny and released on an appearance ticket.
- A man reported that while he was dining at Mooney’s, unknown suspect(s) entered his company car and stole an HP laptop and keys for two other cars.
- A disturbance arose at WSPD headquarters. One male chased another male into the police station. Officers intervened and separated them; there was no physical contact between the two.
- Kling Bros. Auto reported unknown suspect(s) entered and rifled through numerous customers’ vehicles, which were parked on the business’ lot, overnight.
- A man called police, stating that while he was at Advance Auto Parts, another man entered his vehicle and turned down the volume on his radio, which the subject said was too loud. The subject left prior to officers’ arrival. The complainant was advised that leaving his vehicle running while unattended is a violation of NYS Vehicle & Traffic Law.
- Patrols were called to Potter’s Field for customer trouble. A drunken male speaking broken English was reportedly refusing to pay his bill. The man claimed to be homeless. He was sent to the hospital for detox, due to his level of intoxication.
Saturday 5/1/21: Total Complaints = 86
- Patrols responded to 10 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Patrol responded to 2 Alarm Ringing calls.
- Officers performed 1 Welfare Check.
- A Seneca St. resident called police, stating she caught several patrons of the Ebenezer Ale House urinating on her lawn. When she confronted them, they took off. Officers spoke with the staff, who stated they will keep a closer eye on their customers in the future.
- The clerk at the 7-Eleven on Seneca St. reported a customer was trying to make a purchase with a fake ID, and the two were now having a disagreement, the customer insisting that the ID was not fake. The customer left prior to patrol’s arrival.
- A man reported seeing a suspicious person walking around a shipping container outside an Empire Dr. business. When police arrived, there was no one around, and the container did not appear to have been tampered with.
- Police responded to a landlord/tenant dispute on Paxford Pl. The complainant stated the landlady turned off his water and padlocked the basement door. The two have an upcoming court date for eviction proceedings.
- A man called police, stating three youths had just stolen his son’s bicycle, while he and his children were inside the Subway at Southgate Plaza. The man was able to detain one of the three youths, while the other two fled. Officers spoke with the detained juvenile’s parents, learned the identity of the other two juveniles, and recovered the bike.
- Officers responded to a report of a loud protest at the corner of Clinton St. and Harlem Rd. The protesters were not blocking traffic or doing anything else illegal.
- A Big Lots employee reported that the night before, she’d witnessed a male suspect shoplift over $400 worth of merchandise. She stated she tried to chase him, but he got into a waiting car and fled. Loss prevention will attempt to retrieve video of the suspect for detectives.
- Patrols came to the aid of a disabled motor vehicle on Ridge Rd. The driver, a 29-year-old Buffalo man, had an active warrant with City of Tonawanda Police. He was turned over to Tonawanda Police on the warrant. The owner of the car came to wait with it for AAA.
- An Eldred Ave. woman reported her cat was missing, and she believed that someone had stolen it from her yard.
- A 60-year-old Cheektowaga woman was arrested for drunk driving, while officers were conducting a DWI checkpoint on Harlem Rd. She failed field sobriety tests and registered a .105% BAC on a preliminary breath test. She was charged with DWI, and released to a sober friend.
- A Willowdale Dr. resident called police, stating unknown subjects kept ringing her doorbell, and she was frightened. When officers arrived, no one was around.
- A Manhasset St. resident reported a suspicious male driving a vehicle stopped in front of her house, got out, took a picture of her neighbor’s house, and then drove away. Police were unable to locate the vehicle in the area.
- A Schultz Rd. resident reported there was a suspicious SUV parked on the street, and that he believed the male inside the vehicle was smoking crack. The male was, in fact, falling asleep, which is why he pulled over. Officers escorted him safely home.
