6/27/2021 – 7/3/2021
Sunday 6/27/21: Total Complaints = 97 - Patrols responded to 14 First Aid Assistance calls. - Patrol answered 3 Alarm Ringing calls. - Police responded to 1 Domestic Disturbance. - Officers performed 2 Welfare Checks. - Police and firefighters responded to a fire on the playground at West Elementary. School security cameras captured three subjects setting off fireworks on the property, which then caused a garbage can to ignite. Detectives are investigating. - A man flagged officers down on Oakridge Dr., stating he was lost and had just been kicked out of the place where he’d been staying. We gave him a ride home to his address, in Buffalo, where he was turned over to his wife. - A 54-year-old Buffalo man was arrested for drunk driving. Officers observed him speeding down Potters Rd., driving around another car on the shoulder and veering off into the grass. He failed field sobriety tests and registered a .11% BAC on a preliminary breath test. He was charged with DWI and several traffic infractions. - A Winegar Pl. resident reported her lawn ornaments and potted plants were damaged overnight. The complainant’s security camera captured footage of the female suspect. - A woman called police from Center Rd., stating she was lost and didn’t know where she was. Patrols transported her to a bus stop. - A Duerstein St. resident reported his garbage tote and garage door were damaged with an explosive. Police spoke with a neighbor and her son; the son admitted that he placed an “M80”-style firework in the garbage tote and lit it, “for fun.” The subject and his mother agreed to pay for the damages. - A Delray Ave. resident reported unknown suspect(s) smashed out one of the windows of her pickup truck overnight. - A suspicious male was reported to be walking down Mayfield Dr. trying to get into cars. Police searched the neighborhood but did not locate the male. A neighbor stated he’d confronted the subject, who then hopped a fence into Garden Village Apartments. - A Cresthaven Dr. resident called police, stating he’d just heard something or someone break his bathroom window. Officers located a small rock inside the window, which looked very much like the rocks used in the next-door neighbor’s landscaping. The neighbor’s son admitted to playing with the rocks, and accidentally breaking the window. The neighbor agreed to pay for the damage.
Monday 6/28/21: Total Complaints = 68 - Patrol responded to 9 First Aid Assistance calls. - Patrols answered 1 Alarm Ringing call. - Police responded to 5 Domestic Disturbances. - Officers performed 3 Welfare Checks. - A woman called police, stating she’d just received multiple voicemails from a friend, and it sounded like the friend was fighting with her boyfriend. Officers located the subject at her boyfriend’s house, on Seneca St., where she is currently unwelcome. She was intoxicated, and decided to sneak into the house. She was escorted out, and picked up by the complainant. - A Seneca St. resident reported someone kept shining lights into his windows. The lights were actually from Carstar on Orchard Park Rd., and could be seen through the complainant’s windows whenever the wind blew and moved the trees. - WSPD received a report of a woman walking in the middle of Union Rd. Patrols were unable to locate anyone walking in the street. - A suspicious male was reported to be loitering near the ATM on the M&T Bank building, across from Picasso’s. Officers located no one around the building. A bank employee also responded, and verified the ATM had not been tampered with. - A Seneca St. resident reported her neighbor cut down a tree on her property, then got “confrontational” with her about it. The neighbor would “neither confirm nor deny” that he cut the tree down. He was advised to stay off the complainant’s property. - A 26-year-old West Seneca resident was arrested, following a car accident on Deerchase Rd. While backing out of a driveway, she struck a car that was parked on the street. Her learner’s permit was suspended, and her vehicle’s registration was both suspended and expired. She was issued citations for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd Degree, Unregistered Motor Vehicle, and Operating While Registration Suspended. Police confiscated the license plates. - Police received a complaint about an injured bird at Ikon Self Storage. An officer rescued the pigeon and turned it over to an animal rehabilitator. Tuesday 6/29/21: Total Complaints = 77 - Patrol responded to 12 First Aid Assistance calls. - Patrols answered 1 Alarm Ringing call. - Police responded to 2 Domestic Disturbances. - Officers performed 4 Welfare Checks. - WSPD received a complaint about three youths skateboarding down the middle of Seneca St. They were advised to stay out of the road. - Police responded to a noise complaint at an Edson St. address. The three polite girls, who were talking quietly in the backyard, agreed to be even quieter. - Officers observed a suspicious male on the railroad tracks along Indian Church Rd. He took off running when we approached. We subsequently determined he’d been out drinking, and was using the tracks to walk home from the bar. - A 33-year-old West Seneca woman was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. Patrols observed an SUV driving in the middle of both lanes on Mineral Springs Rd., its tailgate open. The driver failed field sobriety tests, but tested negative for alcohol. Drug paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine were found inside the vehicle. The woman was charged with DWAI By Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, and traffic infractions. - A Lorraine Pl. resident reported an unknown suspect has opened a half-dozen bank and credit card accounts in his name, running up total charges of near $28,000. - A Clinton St. resident reported she is receiving harassing Facebook and text messages from her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend. - WSPD received a complaint about a suspicious male who’d been sleeping in the weeds at Burchfield Commons, who was now walking south on Union Rd., wearing a bathrobe. Patrols transported him to the Buffalo City Mission. - Police and firefighters responded to a propane tank leaking on Delray Ave. The tank was safely cooled down and moved away from the house. - A man reported his vehicle was struck while parked outside TOPS on Orchard Park Rd. A witness and store video footage identified the striking vehicle and driver. The driver subsequently responded to WSPD headquarters, stated he didn’t think he’d hit the other car but merely “brushed up against it,” and was issued a citation for Leaving the Scene of an Accident. - A woman reported she confronted a group of females who were dancing inappropriately at a Mill Rd. address, and the females then threw a water bottle at her. They were gone when officers arrived. - Employees of TOPS on Harlem Rd. reported a male suspect shoplifted approximately $300-$400 in meat, pop, and paper products the night before. - A Harlem Rd. resident reported he was sitting outside the door to his apartment building when his neighbor opened the door, striking him with it. (The two do not get along). They were both advised about how to be more neighborly. - Police and EMS responded to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Southwestern Blvd. near Crofton Dr. Patrols performed CPR, but lifesaving efforts were not successful. The victim was a 54-year-old man. The road was closed for several hours for accident investigation. Wednesday 6/30/21: Total Complaints = 88 - Patrol responded to 12 First Aid Assistance calls. - Patrols answered 5 Alarm Ringing calls. - Police responded to 1 Domestic Disturbance. - Officers performed 1 Welfare Check. - Patrols were called to a Harlem Rd. address for some sort of disturbance. The complainant stated he could see and hear several “pops” and flashes of light outside. Patrols searched the area and talked to a neighbor who was outside at the time; he said he didn’t hear anything. The complainant was slightly intoxicated. - Police received several calls about a suspicious female sitting in the parking lot of a Mill Rd. apartment complex, “with nowhere to go.” She’d been thrown out of an apartment there by a male subject. We gave her a ride to her destination. - The custodian at Northwood Elementary reported an abandoned bicycle on the school grounds, which had been there for several days. The bicycle had not been reported stolen. It is now in storage at WSPD. - The owner of Kling Bros. Auto reported unknown suspect(s) broke into two vehicles that were parked on the lot overnight. One vehicle had a window smashed out. - Police were called to Wegmans, where a male seemed to be aggravating his female companion in the parking lot. The two friends were having a disagreement; Wegmans personnel asked them to leave, and they complied. - Police and EMS responded to an accident with injuries on Seneca St. One vehicle had its left turn signal on and was waiting to turn into a business’ parking lot, when it was rear-ended by another. Both drivers complained of pain, were evaluated and signed off. - Officers were called to a fight at a Harlem Rd. apartment complex. Witnesses stated that one tenant had approached another and kindly asked him to keep the noise down at night, at which point the subject attacked the victim, putting both hands around his neck, shoving him to the ground and repeatedly kicking him. The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. The subject was arrested and charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree. - A woman reported she is receiving harassing text messages from a former neighbor, calling her derogatory names and generally expressing ill will toward her. Patrols were unable to make contact with the subject. The complainant was advised to block the number and call us if the harassment continues. Thursday 7/1/21: Total Complaints = 74 - Patrols responded to 9 First Aid Assistance calls. - Patrol answered 3 Alarm Ringing calls. - Police responded to 1 Domestic Disturbance. - Officers performed 2 Welfare Checks. - Patrols observed a suspicious vehicle parked at Burchfield Nature Center overnight. The occupants were advised of the park hours; patrol stood by while they picked up trash they’d left strewn about the park, and they left without further incident. - A 34-year-old Buffalo woman was arrested, following a traffic stop on Orchard Park Rd. An officer observed a vehicle driving at night with no lights on. The driver had an active arrest warrant with Hamburg Police. She was taken into custody, and turned over to Hamburg on the warrant. - A suspicious person was reported to be sitting inside a vehicle at the Speedway gas station at Ridge and Orchard Park Rds. He’d reportedly been at the pumps for 20 minutes, but had never gotten out of the car. He was on his way to work, and stopped to make a phone call. - A Norwood Dr. resident reported her checkbook had gone missing, and an unknown suspect attempted to write him/herself a fraudulent check for $850. - A 26-year-old Lackawanna man was arrested, following a traffic stop on Potters Rd. Officers observed a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker. The driver’s license was suspended, and the vehicle’s registration was expired. The driver was issued citations for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd Degree and Uninspected Motor Vehicle. - Police responded to a report of shoplifting at Market in the Square. The female suspect dropped the merchandise in the parking lot when confronted by employees, got into the passenger side of a waiting car, and left in an unknown direction. - The manager of Rite Aid at Seneca and Union reported an unknown male suspect dressed in a business suit had just shoplifted $397 worth of candy. Surveillance video will be used to identify him. - A 21-year-old Amherst woman was arrested, following a traffic stop. Patrols were called to the area of Collins Ave. and Mineral Springs Rd. for a report of a blue sedan speeding and operating recklessly. Officers located the vehicle, observed it cross over the double yellow line multiple times and not stop at a stop sign. The driver’s license was revoked. She was cited for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd Degree, Moved From Lane Unsafely and Failure to Stop at Stop Sign. Her vehicle was towed. - A 54-year-old West Seneca man was arrested for drunk driving. While investigating a reckless operation complaint on Brookside Dr., an officer observed a vehicle driving extremely slowly down Densmore St., and failing to signal a turn. The officer stopped the car, and the driver was visibly intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests and refused to give a breath sample. He was charged with DWI, Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test and other traffic infractions. - Police received a complaint about kids on Barnsdale Ave. playing basketball, hitting one of the neighbor’s cars. Officers spoke with them; they agreed to be more careful of where the ball goes in the future. - A suspicious pickup truck was reported to be parked in the old Bank of America lot on Transit Rd. The occupants were just sitting there, talking. They were advised they were on private property, and they left without incident. Friday 7/2/21: Total Complaints = 85 - Patrols responded to 10 First Aid Assistance calls. - Patrol answered 2 Alarm Ringing calls. - Police responded to 3 Domestic Disturbances. - Officers performed 3 Welfare Checks. - Police and firefighters responded to a house fire on Seneca Creek Rd. The homeowner had evacuated the house upon our arrival; there was heavy smoke emanating from inside. A pile of towels in the basement had caught fire. Firefighters extinguished the flames. No one was injured. - Patrol located a suspicious male inside the sanctuary at 14 Holy Helpers Church overnight. The sanctuary door had been left closed, but unlocked. Nothing appeared damaged or otherwise amiss, and the male was sent on his way. - The owner of a Langner Rd. business reported arriving to work to find his shop burglarized. A rear door had been opened, and $500 in tools along with a camera had been stolen. Detectives are investigating. - A woman reported she has been receiving harassing and sexually explicit phone calls and text messages from an unknown male for the past week, and that each time she blocks the male’s phone number, he contacts her from a new one. - Officers were called to a Collins Ave. address for an unwelcome guest. The complainant stated there is a much younger woman who has been continually coming to her disabled father’s residence. The subject was advised by us that she is no longer welcome there. - A suspicious vehicle was reportedly parked on the access driveway to the NYSEG site, off Center Rd. near Robin Ln. Police made contact with the young occupants of the car, who stated they were just hanging out talking, and didn’t realize that they shouldn’t be there. They left without incident. - Two Organ Crescent residents reported a group of youths were going around banging on doors late at night, bothering residents. Patrols located the group of youths wandering the neighborhood and advised them to cease their pranks. - Officers were called to McDonald’s on Union Rd., where a male in the drive-thru was reportedly refusing to leave and threatening employees. The male felt he’d been shorted food that he had paid for. With officers’ mediation, cooler heads prevailed and the male left without further incident. - Police received multiple fireworks use complaints. Saturday 7/3/21: Total Complaints = 89 - Patrols responded to 11 First Aid Assistance calls. - Police responded to 8 Domestic Disturbances. - Officers performed 7 Welfare Checks. - WSPD received a report of a dog barking for hours on Casimer St. The dog’s owner had fallen asleep and forgotten to let the dog in. - An Orchard Park Rd. resident reported an unknown person entered her unlocked garage, removed/rearranged several items from the fridge and broke several glass bottles. She suspected it was a relative with whom she does not get along, who was bitter over not being invited to a family party. - A woman called police from an estate sale on Collins Ave., stating she was having a disagreement with the auctioneer. Both of them were advised, and the complainant left the sale. - A fawn was reported to be stuck in a fenced-in Center Rd. backyard, too small to get out. Upon patrols’ arrival, the young deer had figured out a way to escape. - Officers observed a suspicious vehicle alongside TOPS on Orchard Park Rd. The occupants were trying to unload items for the Goodwill collection center, which is no longer on the property. They were advised of the town code against illegal dumping, and sent on their way. - Police received a report of a white pickup truck operating recklessly, weaving all over the road on Seneca St. Officers made contact with the driver, who stated he was looking at his cell phone. He was advised not to use his phone will driving. - Loss prevention at TOPS on Harlem Rd. reported two male suspects, possibly juveniles, shoplifted approximately $300 in steaks from the store. They got into a vehicle, in which two older male suspects were waiting, and fled toward Clinton St. Surveillance video will be used to identify them. - Police and firefighters were called to a possible house fire on Seneca St. Upon first responders’ arrival, a garbage tote was on fire. The flames spread to a porch railing, but were quickly doused and did not otherwise damage the house. The tote was apparently ignited by the discarded contents of a fire pit. - An Orchard Park Rd. resident reported unknown suspect(s) stole the fuses from her vehicle.
