Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reports the arrest of a Grand Island man on October 12, 2022, following complaints of motorcycles racing on Grand Island Boulevard.
On October 11, deputies located the motorcycles believed to be racing at a Grand Island Blvd. address. At approximately 9:40 p.m., deputies observed a male leave the address on a motorcycle. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the operator fled. Deputies observed the motorcycle run a red light and recklessly pass vehicles at a high rate of speed on Interstate 190.
The deputies’ investigation discovered the operator of the unregistered motorcycle was 37-year-old Tyler Cooper of Grand Island. The investigation also found Cooper had an outstanding warrant out of the Town of Amherst.
During the investigation, deputies located Cooper in a vehicle operating on Interstate 190 in the City of Buffalo. Deputies stopped the vehicle and arrested Cooper.
Cooper is charged with the following misdemeanor counts:
· Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle;
· Obstruction of governmental administration;
· Resisting arrest;
· Reckless driving; aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle; and
· Circumvent interlock device.
He was also cited for five separate vehicle and traffic law infractions.
Deputies were able to locate the motorcycle at a collision shop in the City of Buffalo and impounded the vehicle.
Cooper was also arrested on the outstanding criminal possession of a controlled substance out of the Town of Amherst.
The defendant was taken to the Erie County Holding Center and held for arraignment.
