Correction Officer Sustains Injury During a Disturbance.

Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reports a Correction Officer at the Erie County Correctional Facility sustained a minor injury to their hand while responding to an incarcerated individual disturbance on April 18.

Incarcerated individual Miller created a disturbance in his housing unit. When Officers responded, Miller was non-compliant and resistant. Officers deployed OC-spray, entered the unit, and restrained Miller. During this action, an Officer sustained an injury to his hand.

The incarcerated individual was evaluated by Correctional Health personnel and Forensic Mental Health staff, and the Officer remained on duty after medical evaluation and treatment.

Miller is charged with obstruction of governmental administration and faces administrative charges.

Miller is being held following his indictment for assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal contempt.
