U.S. Border Patrol Invites Buffalo Residents To Join Citizens Academy Starting August 13

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The U.S. Border Patrol will conduct a Citizens Academy starting August 13, at the Buffalo Border Patrol Station. This program will provide local residents an opportunity to learn about the U.S. Border Patrol and its role in the community, and provide an open dialogue with participants.

The Citizens Academy program is a free outreach program designed to educate members of the public and stakeholders in the Border Patrol mission, why we perform it, and how it is executed. Participants will learn about Border Patrol’s history, legal authority, mission, operations, and partnerships. Attendees receive approximately 15 hours of instruction, tours, and hands-on training from Border Patrol agents. The sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at noon each Saturday, for six consecutive weeks with the final session on September 17.

“Our Citizens Academy welcomes people from all walks of life,” said Border Patrol Agent Dean Mandel. “We are proud to be a part of the Buffalo area community, and look forward to hosting as many people as possible.”

Interested parties must be 18 years of age and older, and submit an application that involves a criminal background check. Residents interested in attending are encouraged to call Border Patrol Agent Dean Mandel at the Buffalo Border Patrol Station at 716-862-7000. The deadline for applications is August 1.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
