Statement Regarding Injured Erie Co. Sheriff’s Reserve Deputy.

Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard issues a statement about a Reserve Deputy injured along the sidelines during the Bills game.

Sheriff Howard said, “Currently, the Deputy remains in an area hospital recovering from surgery for injuries sustained during the December 8, Buffalo Bills game.  I have spoken with his wife and offered my best thoughts and prayers on behalf of the Erie County Sheriff’s for the Deputy’s full recovery.”

The Deputy suffered his injuries when a Baltimore Ravens player ran into the back of him following a play in the end zone at the tunnel end of the stadium.

“Working the sidelines of an NFL game can be rewarding but can be dangerous too.  With the speed and size of players, paired with the dozens of game day staff along the sidelines, there are many opportunities for collisions and staff to get injured,” explained Howard.  “Today, we are just concerned about Deputy Macken’s health and recovery and I have offered my full support.”

The Deputy’s family is requesting privacy and have respectfully declined any interviews.

Well wishes and cards can be sent to:
