On Friday, September 4 at approximately 4:18 a.m., State Troopers received a report of a motor vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of the NYS Thruway at milepost marker 375, between exits 46 and 47 in the town of Wheatland, Monroe County.
A preliminary investigation has determined that a tractor-trailer attempted to make a u-turn across the westbound lanes of traffic, when a vehicle also traveling in the westbound lanes struck and drove under the tractor-trailer, killing the operator and seriously injuring the passenger. The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The tractor-trailer left the scene, performed a u-turn and headed eastbound. The operator left the Thruway at exit 46, and then pulled into the parking lot of the Doubletree Hotel at the intersection of Jefferson Road and East Henrietta Road, before driving off.
The tractor trailer is described as a yellow Volvo truck with a sleeper cab pulling a trailer with driver side damage. Anyone with information is requested to call the New York State Police at: (518) 436-2825 or (585) 398-4100.
