(Niagara Falls, New York-2/13/2023)
Niagara Falls Fire crews responded to a call for two people possibly in the water at Terrapin Point before 1PM. Upon arrival, they were advised that two people climbed over a railing and fell from the edge. With members from the Parks Police, fire crews made their way down to search. They encountered slippery, rocky terrain and found a mother and child approximately 70 yards from the top. Once they were able to get to the victims, medical evaluation and rescue attempts were started. The five-year-old child was brought to the top and handed to Mercy Flight for immediate medical attention. It was determined after lengthy CPR was administered to the mother, she had succumbed to her wounds. Crews worked with the Parks Police and State Police to airlift her out of the gorge.
