Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Road Patrol Deputies made five traffic stops which resulted in narcotics arrests and a DWI this past weekend. June 3, 1:33 A.M., Village of Farnham – Deputy Hyde initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Erie and Commercial roads for an equipment violation. When the Deputy approached the vehicle, he could detect the strong odor of marijuana from the interior of the vehicle. Meanwhile, Deputies Christian and Feggans arrived, and the Deputies interviewed the driver and two passengers. When the driver exited the vehicle, a white pill, later identified as Oxycodone, was observed on the driver side floor and Kaitlyn Kist, 18 of Evans, was detained. The Deputy’s investigation discovered a bag of marijuana in Frederick Eckles’, 19 of Angola, pants and a bag of marijuana in Corey Brown’s, 18 of Angola, underwear. Eckles and Brown were released to their parents with appearance tickets, and Kist is charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, criminal possession of a controlled substance, two vehicle and traffic violations. Kist was released to a third party with an appearance ticket. June 3, 5:01 A.M., Village of Springville – Deputy Francis stopped a vehicle on Route 219 operated by Ben Delzoppo, 36 of Niagara Falls, for vehicle and traffic violations. During the Deputy’s investigation, he observed loose pills near to the driver; the pills were later identified as Xanax. The following search of the vehicle discovered 23.5 methadone pills, 7 Xanax, and four Diazepam pills. Delzoppo was arrested and charged with five misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and a vehicle and traffic violation. The defendant was later released on appearance tickets. June 4, 12:58 A.M., Village of Farnham – Deputies Hyde, Christian, and Feggan responded to a disabled vehicle partially in the roadway on Erie Road. When Deputy Hyde arrived, he observed the vehicle unoccupied, and Deputies Christian and Feggan located the operator walking on the road. When they approached Martin Schenk, 29 of Silver Creek, he became uncooperative and refused assistance, but the Deputies provided a courtesy ride to the vehicle. When the Deputies arrived at the disabled vehicle, they observed a bag containing white powder and items associated with drug use in plain view. Schenk was detained, and a search discovered a quantity of hash in his apparel and a plastic cap with cocaine residue. Schenk was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and a vehicle and traffic violation. He was released on an appearance ticket. June 5, 2:30 A.M., City of Buffalo – Deputy Schreiber initiated a traffic stop on Elm Street after the patrol cars’ license plate reader identified a vehicle operating on the roadway with a suspended registration. When speaking with the operator, the Deputy observed several needle caps in the cabin of the vehicle and discovered the operator’s license is suspended. Meganne Brady, 33 of Buffalo, was arrested and the subsequent vehicle search discovered several empty hypodermic needles, heroin residue, and multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia. Brady is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, aggravated unlicensed operation, and operating a vehicle with a suspended registration. She was released on appearance tickets. June 5, 4:32 A.M., City of Buffalo – Deputy Zamorek stopped a vehicle on Interstate 190 for traveling fifteen MPH below the speed limit and swerving. Johnny Oliver, 41 of Buffalo, failed standard field sobriety tests and registered a BAC level twice the legal limit. Oliver was arrested and charged with DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, and two vehicle and traffic violations. The Deputy also discovered that Oliver had an outstanding warrant from the City of Buffalo and the defendant was taken to the Erie County Holding Center pending arraignment.
