[Via-WXXI.Org] The U.S. Marshals Service said that a man was fatally shot by his own gun during a struggle with members of law enforcement in Rochester Wednesday.
A task force consisting of U.S. Marshals, State and Rochester Police and Monroe County deputies were on Vinewood Place on the southwest side of the city, looking for someone wanted in Wayne County for an assault charge involving a child.
According to State Police, the task force members went to serve a warrant for second-degree assault at 6 Vinewood Place. They said the suspect, now identified as 24-year-old Dedrick James, pulled out a loaded handgun and during a struggle one round was fired from his gun striking his upper body.
State Police say that no law enforcement officers involved fired their weapons and lifesaving techniques were used unsuccessfully on James, who died at the scene.
The incident is being investigated by Rochester and State Police as well as the State Attorney General’s Office.
