Main-Transit Firefighters Respond to Large Commercial Building in Amherst.

Main-Transit Fire Department of Amherst, NY responded to a report of a fire at 120 Earhart Dr at 4:23 PM on July 20, 2021. Firefighters arrived on location and found heavy fire conditions showing through the roof of the building. Firefighters immediately began searching for the source of the fire and ensuring that all workers were out of the building. The mutual aid plan requested numerous additional pieces of firefighting apparatus and was implemented immediately. During the operations firefighters became aware of hazardous chemicals that were being stored and used in the facility and implemented several different precautions to protect firefighters and citizens in the area. Air and water monitoring are currently being performed by several agencies and at the time of the report there is no danger to the public. The weather in the area hampered firefighter operations several times throughout the incident. Forty two Main-Transit Firefighters and firefighters from forty different fire departments (including Buffalo Fire Department, Rochester Fire Department, Buffalo Niagara Airport Fire Department, and Niagara Air Base) battled the blaze. Fire Chief Brad Sprague commanded the response. The incident is still under investigation through the Amherst Fire Inspectors office, Amherst Police Department, Erie County Sheriff's office and New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. The Main-Transit Fire Department was also assisted by numerous local, country and state agencies that provided manpower and equipment during this event. The Main-Transit Fire Department would like to thank the community and local business in supporting our efforts with donations of food, beverages, and other needed supplies. Any further questions may be answered by calling Fire Chief Brad Sprague at 716-632-9710 ext 118. Thank you in advance. Firematically yours,

Chief Brad Sprague
