Lockport Woman Dies Following Newstead Crash. Weather Conditions Believed to be a Factor.
Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the Crash Investigation Unit is still investigating the cause of a crash on February 7, along Maple Road in the Town of Newstead that sent three to area hospitals and one individual succumbed to their injuries.
Around 7 a.m., Friday, witnesses stated a mid-size SUV traveling north lost control and swerved into the path of a southbound vehicle. The southbound struck the SUV on the passenger side, and both vehicles careened off the roadway.
Members of the Newstead Fired Company had to extricate the passenger of the SUV, and Ada Zambranapagan, 39 of Lockport, was transported to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital by a Twin City Ambulance where she passed away. The driver of the SUV and the driver of the second vehicle (the sole occupant) were transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of various, non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the incident but believe weather conditions were a factor in the collision.
