Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of John Gugino for drug-related charges following a 3-week long investigation, which started after the Sheriff’s Narcotics and Intelligence Unit received multiple anonymous tips.
The investigation resulted in the unit applying for and receiving search warrants signed by Judge Kenneth Case for the subject and his vehicle. At approximately 10:30 p.m. on October 17, Gugino was stopped by a marked Sheriff’s patrol vehicle at Milestrip Road and the I-90 exit ramp in the Town of Hamburg for vehicle and traffic violations.
During a search of Gugino’s vehicle, Deputies discovered marijuana, a marijuana pipe, and a felony amount of cocaine.
Deputies arrested and charged Gugino with a felony count of criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor count of DWI - Drugs, a violation for unlawful possession of marijuana, and vehicle and traffic law violations.
Gugino is a Deputy assigned to the Jail Management Division at the holding center, and he is suspended without pay.
The Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation and will not be providing further comment at this time.
The Erie County District Attorney’s Office assisted with the investigation.
