Shortly before 7am on Monday, February 18th, a Grand Island Fire Company public safety dispatcher received multiple 911 calls of flames shooting through the roof of a one-story ranch style home at 3174 Stony Point Road, between Huth Road and Majestic Woods. The home was reportedly under renovation by the owner, who was not on location at the time.
Deputy Fire Chief Mark Sadkowski stated that the structure was “fully involved” when Engines 3, 4, & 5, Ladder Truck 6, and volunteer firefighters arrived on location. In addition, mutual aid support was received from the Sheridan Park Fire Department, Brighton Volunteer Fire Co #5, River Road Volunteer Fire Company, and the City of Tonawanda Fire Department.
After extensive firefighting operations were concluded, a final “hot spot” was extinguished at 11:14am. Total damage was estimated at $80,000 to the structure and $10,000 to the contents, according to Fire Chief Matt Osinski. An exact cause has not yet been determined.
During the firefighting operations for the structure fire, one EMS call was handled by the City of Tonawanda Fire Department and GIFC Medic 7 for an ill person on Island Park Circle at approximately 10:18am.
There were no injuries reported, and all units returned in-service at 11:55am.
