Genesee County, Darien, NY - Fatal Hit and Run. Witnesses and Striking Vehicle Sought.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 12:30 am this morning on Sumner Road near Harlow Road in the Town of Darien.

The victim was walking on the south shoulder of Sumner Road with a group of friends heading west. At this time the investigation indicates that the victim ran ahead from that group in an attempt to catch up to another friend. All parties were staying at the Darien Lake State Park and were returning from the concert at Darien Lake. When the victim didn’t show up to the campsite, the other friends notified the New York State Park Police, who then also notified the Sheriff’s Office. The immediate roadways and surrounding areas were checked, however no one was located. Interviews conducted this morning by the New York State Park Police with the involved subjects, developed information that they possibly had heard a collision on Sumner Road while walking back to their campsite. Sumner Road was again checked for a possible accident scene. With the additional information, New York State Park Police and Deputy Schildwaster were able to locate the victim around 11:51 am.

The victim was identified as Connor Lynskey – age 18, of Cady Road, Hinckly, NY. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Lang at 1:19 pm. The victim was transported by a local funeral home to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Monroe County for an autopsy.

The preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle was east bound on Sumner Road and struck the victim. The victim became airborne and then came to rest in the south ditch of Sumner Road near a corn field. The suspect vehicle did not stop and left the scene.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or suspect vehicle is urged to call the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office at (585) 345-3000, ext 3222.

Assisting at the scene were the Darien Center Volunteer Fire Department, the New York State Park Police, and the New York State Police. The investigation is continuing by Deputy Richard Schildwaster, Investigator Chris Parker, and Crash Management Team member Sgt. Jason Saile of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
