Erratic Driver Complaint Results In DWI arrest.

Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of 54-year-old Laura Zaranek of Cheektowaga on DWI charges following an investigation of erratic driving.
At approximately 7:00 p.m. on January 6, Deputies responded to calls about erratic vehicle operation along Bullis Road in Elma. Deputies located the vehicle stopped along Clinton Street, and they observed a female in a driver’s seat. While speaking with the driver, Deputies detected the strong odor of alcohol.
The Deputies administered standard field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath screening. Zaranek failed multiple field tests and registered a preliminary BAC more than four times the legal limit. At the substation, the subject refused to submit to a chemical test, and she was arrested.
She is charged with a misdemeanor count of DWI, as well as a violation for refusing to take a breath test. Deputies added a charge for an unsafe lane change after investigating reports of her vehicle striking a stop sign at the intersection of Bullis and Four Rod roads and observed damage to her vehicle.
Due to her highly intoxicated condition, Zaranek was admitted to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation.
