Erie Co Sheriffs Office Earns NY State Re-Accreditation. Office now has Three Major Sheriffs Divisio

Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announced today that the Erie County Sheriff’s Police Services Division had achieved re-accreditation from the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services (NYSDCJS).

On June 7, 2018, the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Council voted to approve the Erie County Sheriff’s application for accreditation following a recommendation from the council’s reassessment team.

In March 2018, a reaccreditation assessment team conducted a review of the Sheriff’s Office and found the agency has maintained and is in full compliance with all applicable standards. Some of the areas of operations reviewed by the reaccreditation team include administration, fiscal management, records, employment standards, discipline, use of force, internal affairs, training standards, and criminal investigations.

Sheriff Howard said, “I am thrilled that we were approved for re-accreditation. The process is a tough one and maintaining the standards set by New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services is equally tough. That is why I am proud of the work done by all the Deputies and civilian employees to maintain the high standards.”

The re-accreditation is valid through June 3, 2023. In the past year, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office has achieved accreditation for the Jail Management Division, re-accreditation for the Civil Enforcement Division, and the SWAT Team received Municipal Training Council and NYSDCJS certification.

The council also recognized Detective Daniel Walczak, Program Manager, for his efforts throughout the assessment review and managing the accreditation program.
