Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard Deputies made two DWI arrests over the weekend.
February 14, Town of Newstead – At approximately 8:45 p.m., Deputies responded to a complaint about a possible intoxicated driver in Newstead. Deputies searched the area for the suspected vehicle and did locate the vehicle on Rapids Road.
Deputies observed vehicle and traffic law violations and performed a traffic stop. 53-year-old Michelle Hanssen of Middleport admitted to Deputies that she had been drinking alcohol, and she failed multiple field sobriety tests. She was taken to the Clarence Substation, where she refused to submit to a breath test.
Hanssen is charged with a misdemeanor count of DWI, a violation for possession of marijuana, refusing to take a breath test, and driving a vehicle without an inspection. She was released with tickets.
February 15, Town of Sardinia – Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash along South Protection Road. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole and a vehicle parked in a driveway.
61-year-old Sisamouth Souvannavong of Holland failed multiple standard field sobriety tests and registered a BAC level more than two times the legal limit. During a search of the operator’s vehicle, Deputies discovered a quantity of hydrocodone pills not in the original container.
Deputies charged the operator with misdemeanor counts of DWI, Aggravated DWI – BAC more than .18, criminal mischief, and criminal possession of a controlled substance. They also charged him possessing a controlled substance not in the original container and two vehicle and traffic law violations. The defendant was processed and released to a sober third party.
