East Aurora - Sheriff’s Deputy Charged and Suspended Following Crash.

Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports his office has initiated two separate investigations into an incident involving a Deputy and a Sheriff’s vehicle on October 2 at approximately 8 p.m.

The East Aurora Police Department contacted the Sheriff’s Office about a single-vehicle crash along Jewett Holmwood Road in the Town of Aurora.  Sheriff’s investigators arrived, and their investigation resulted in the arrest of the Deputy for misdemeanor counts of DWI and operating a vehicle with a BAC of .08%.

· Police Services supervisors were dispatched to the scene.

· The Sheriff ordered a separate Professional Standards Division investigation into the incident, which is continuing.

· The Deputy is suspended without pay.

· The Deputy was suspended on October 3.

Due to the ongoing investigations, the agency will not provide further comment.
