Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of 61-year-old Elizabeth Thrasher-Broidy of East Aurora following an investigation of a vehicle in a ditch along North Davis Road in the Town of Elma.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., Deputies responded to the scene. When they arrived, they observed a vehicle off the roadway and detected the odor of alcohol on the breath of the operator. While attempting to administer standard field sobriety tests, Thrasher-Broidy became argumentative and refused police orders. At this time, Deputies informed her she was under arrest, and when she was ordered to turn around and place her hands behind her back, she pulled away and walked from the Deputies. The subject was taken into custody but continued to be uncooperative.
While searching the vehicle, Deputies discovered an open bottle of wine as well as a glass containing the alcoholic beverage consistent with wine. Deputies also discovered Thrasher-Broidy had a previous DWI conviction in 2017.
The defendant is charged with a felony count of DWI and vehicle and traffic law violations of refusal to take a breath test, unsafe lane change, and drinking alcohol in a vehicle on the highway.
While processing the defendant, she remained uncooperative and argued with the Deputies, and when provided an opportunity to call for a ride home, she refused.
She is also charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration. She is held at the Erie County Holding Center pending her arraignment.
The East Aurora Police Department assisted with the incident.
