DWI Arrest After Driver Nearly Struck Sheriff Deputy.

Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of 30-year-old Savannah Ciocco of Niagara Falls for DWI – Drugs on June 13, at approximately 11:09 p.m.

A Deputy was traveling along Main Street in the Town of Newstead when an oncoming vehicle crossed over the center lines and nearly struck the patrol vehicle.  After swerving into the grass to avoid a collision, the Deputy initiated a traffic stop.

Ciocco failed multiple standard field sobriety tests, and a drug recognition expert responded to perform an evaluation.  The DRE determined the operator was under the influence of drugs, and she was arrested.

The subject is charged with misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle impaired by drugs and DWAI – the influence of drug/alcohol.  She was also cited for a vehicle and traffic law violation for an unsafe lane change.

The defendant was processed and released to a sober third party.
