DRIVER WHO STRUCK A DEPUTY CHARGED WITH MISDEMEANOR.

Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announces the arrest of a 35-year- old Hamlin, New York resident following an investigation of a hit and run collision which injured a Deputy on November 25.

On December 20, Lee Gill, Jr., was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and a vehicle and traffic law violation for failing to obey a police officer.  Gill turned himself into Crash Investigation Unit Deputies at Orchard Park Court on the 20th and will have additional court proceedings.

Following the football game, the Deputy was directing stadium traffic at the interchange of Routes 20A and 219, when the Deputy was struck by the vehicle Gill was operating.  The Deputy was taken to Erie County Medical Center and was treated for a serious arm injury and released later that night.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office received multiple tips following a press release and social media postings, and Sheriff Howard wishes to thank everyone for their assistance in locating and identifying the operator.
