Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Detective Nelson-Gerken arrested Thomas Johnson, 44 of Buffalo, after receiving information from the Buffalo Police Sex Offense Squad about an incident that took place on September 14 in Grand Island. While babysitting, Johnson made inappropriate sexual contact with the 5-year-old female.

Johnson was arrested by Detective Nelson-Gerken at the Erie County Holding Center where he was incarcerated for three sexual abuse-related charges from the Buffalo Police Department. The defendant is charged with a class-B felony count of sexual conduct against a child less than 11-years-old and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child. He is held at the holding center without bail. Johnson is a registered sex offender following a 1996 conviction of sodomy of a 10-year-old female.

He is held at the holding center without bail following his arraignment by Judge Frentzel.
