DEPUTY RESCUES FAMILY DOG FROM BURNING HOUSE IN COLDEN.

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reports two Deputies suffered injuries while searching a residence during a fire on Blanchard Road in the Town of Colden on April 2.

When Deputies Ellis and Kuhn responded to the house fire, residents were unaccounted for during the fire. The Deputies, and a New York State Trooper, entered the house, but the thick smoke prevented them from conducting a complete canvass of the dwelling.

Deputy Ellis located and rescued one of the family dogs during the search before he was forced to leave the building due to the smoke and flames. Unfortunately, the second pet could not be saved.

The three residents were located at the edge of the property, and they were unharmed.

Deputy Ellis suffered an injured ankle and smoke inhalation and was transported to Erie County Medical Center for evaluation and treatment. Deputy Kuhn was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and returned to work.

The Colden Fire Chief requested the Sheriff’s Fire Investigation Unit. The cause of the blaze is not yet determined.
