UPDATE: CLARENCE INCIDENT, SEARCH FOR PERSON OF INTEREST HAS ENDED.

UPDATE:

Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports there is an ongoing incident in Clarence in the Pineledge Drive and Winding Lane vicinity.

Multiple Sheriff’s units are searching for a person of interest in an ongoing incident that began early Wednesday morning.

*Person of Interest – David E. Cottom, Sr.*

· A vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed nearly struck a Sheriff’s vehicle along Main Street in Clarence;

· While Deputies attempted a traffic stop, the operator fled the scene;

· Sheriff’s Office deployed multiple Deputies, K9 Units, QRF, and Air-1 to search the area;

· Clarence Central School District has been alerted and updated about the incident;

· NY State Police and Amherst Police Department units assisting;

At this time, the Sheriff’s Office does not believe the subject is a danger to the public but believes the individual was despondent at the time of the incident.
