Last Night Crews from Clarence Fire along with mutual aid from Main-transit, Clarence Center and Harris hill Fire Depts responded to 9780 Wehrle Drive for the reported structure fire.
At 09:18P, Amherst Fire Control received a 9-1-1 call from an alarm monitoring company reporting a smoke detector activation from inside the residence at 9780 Wehrle Dr.
A second caller into 9-1-1 reported smoke and flames coming from the chimney and second floor. When Fire Chief Handford from Clarence Fire arrived on scene he had reported fire showing from the second floor and chimney area and had dropped into the basement area.
Fire Crews arrived on scene and marked the fire under control in 30 minutes of the original 9-1-1 call. a family pet cat had perished due to the fire and one firefighter was evaluated at the scene for an ankle injury and was able to remain on scene afterwords.
A total of $270,000. in damages to the structure and contents was reported and the incident is under investigation by the Clarence Fire Inspectors office and the Erie County Sheriff's Office Fire Investigator.
