From Cheektowaga Police Facebook Page:
On September 3, 2021 at about 0020hrs Cheektowaga Police responded to a call of a house fire on Preston Rd. Dispatch updated the responding units and informed them that the fire was in the lower and there were people trapped in the upper apartment.
Upon arrival, officers came upon four individuals on the second floor balcony. The smoke from the fire downstairs made it impossible for the residents to use the stairwell to exit or the officers to enter.
The officers pulled a police cruiser into the driveway and up near the house to attempt to get the residents off the balcony. As the smoke poured out from the lower, the officers successfully assisted all four residents and a small dog from the balcony, down onto the roof of the cruiser and safely down to the ground.
Pine Hill Fire District responded and was assisted by neighboring fire districts in extinguishing the fire.
We want to recognize Officers William Cookfair, Brendan Tomasulo, Joshua Donovan and Jeffrey Scaglione for their heroic lifesaving actions that went beyond the call of duty.
