Cheektowaga Police, "Lock Your Cars!"

Crime prevention tip to our residents: LOCK YOUR CARS!!

Now that nicer weather is finally here, the Town of Cheektowaga, like many other municipalities, has experienced a surge in the number of reports of people breaking into and stealing from vehicles parked either in the street or in private driveways over the last several weeks. Most of the incidents have occurred in the early morning hours of the night while unsuspecting victims are asleep. In almost all cases, the d...oors on the victimized vehicles had been left unlocked overnight. Cheektowaga Police have stepped up patrols throughout residential areas in town. Several arrests have been made. . Although all parts of Town have been targeted, much of the activity this week is in the Union Road/ Genesee Street/ George Urban Blvd. area. Cheektowaga Police are advising the public to lock their vehicle doors and store away precious valuables out of sight if someone were to look into their vehicle. Also, everyone is encouraged to look out their windows occasionally and report any suspicious persons or activity to police by dialing 911 immediately as many of these cases are discovered when neighbors call police. Police advise callers to take no other action and warn them not to confront the suspected thieves. “We believe that most of these incidents occur as youths walk through the neighborhoods, trying vehicle doors and rummaging through the ones found unlocked” said Assistant Chief Jim Speyer.
