Buffalo: Officer Involved Shooting. What We Know So Far.

At around 1700hrs today (5:00PM) in the City's Black Rock Neighborhood. Two Officers were attempting to make an arrest (Currently for Unknown Reasons) when the male they were attempting to arrest started to resist Officers and a Wrestling Match Ensued between the Officers and Suspect. As one Officer was able to stand up he started to scream for Help as witnesses say they noticed his ear hanging by what they say "By a Thread". The Officer was Screaming that he had been shot. The Man eventually broke free from the struggle and started to run as the Officers Partner Fired 2 Shots at the fleeing suspect as the suspect ran into area yards. The Officers Partner gave chase and a Nurse that was at the scene started giving the wounded officer first aid for his injuries. The Officer that was shot is "Unofficially" Identified as Housing Officer Joseph Acquino.

Officer Aquino was just awarded last night at the Buffalo Police PBA Awards for his acts of bravery while on duty. In 2016, Officer Acquino was Honored as with 2 other Officers for the Capture and arrest of an 18-Year-Old robbery suspect who held a loaded gun to an Officers chest firing twice. However thankfully the gun was locked and never fired.

As much as we know today, Officer Acquino was shot in the face with today’s incident. Reports we have been given are unconfirmed however we were told that he was shot through his cheek and into his ear where the bullet was logged. The Officer was transported to Erie County Medical Center where he remains and is receiving treatment. Last we were told is he was awake and talking. The Suspect we are told is deceased by return gun fire. Buffalo Police detectives are working the crime scene and if you may have seen this incident take place you are urged to call "confidentially" the Buffalo Police Tip Line at (716) 847-2255

We here at Erie Co. Blotter wish Officer J. Acquino the very best and a speedy recovery and wish all the Brother and Sisters in Blue that St. Michael Protect Each and Every One of You!
