Arrest Made In December Hit And Run Investigation.

Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announces Deputies, with the Crash Investigation Unit, arrested 23-year-old Dionte Heath of Buffalo yesterday. Heath was the operator of a vehicle that struck a second vehicle at Main Street and Shimerville Road on December 5, 2019, and fled the scene. The operator of the second vehicle was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the crash, investigators identified parts from the vehicle left behind at the scene and determined the pieces were from a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Investigators discovered forty-seven similar vehicles registered in the area and performed a canvass of registered vehicles and owners. On December 10, Deputies located the vehicle and interviewed the driver.

On February 10, 2020, Deputies charged Heath. The defendant is charged with a felony count of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in serious injury, a misdemeanor count of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and three vehicle and traffic law infractions.

Heath was issued appearance tickets and released.
