Amherst Police Warn of Scammers Making Impersonating Phone Calls.

Amherst Police have taken nearly 50 phone calls today from residents reporting that they have received a phone call from a person claiming to be from the US Treasury demanding payment for back taxes or they will be arrested.

We believe these phone calls to be consistent with scams that have been perpetrated again the public in the recent past.

The US Treasury will not contact via telephone regarding fines or penalties. You should not give out and personal information including banking information, and immediately terminate the call.
