Amherst Man Arrested for Multiple Charges Following a Domestic Dispute on the Thruway.

On June 13, 2021, at approximately 11:45 a.m., State Police received a report of a domestic dispute in a vehicle while traveling on I-90 in the town of Brant. Troopers located the vehicle and pulled it over in the area of mile marker 451.6 westbound.

During the investigation, it was determined that the driver, Carl J. Day, 24, of Amherst, NY, grabbed the victim by the hair and struck the victim’s head against the window. Day reportedly took the victim’s cell phone after they stated they were going to call 911 and put the victim in a headlock.


Day was taken into custody and transported to SP Dunkirk where he was charged with Reckless Endangerment 2nddegree, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing/Blood Circulation, and Criminal Mischief 4th degree (prevent request for emergency assistance); all Class A Misdemeanors.


While Day was being processed at the station, he made suicidal threats. He was virtually arraigned before the Town of Brant Court and released on his own recognizance. State Police then transported Day to Erie County Medical Center for a mental evaluation. He is to return to the Town of Brant Court on July 7, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.
